TechWell Privacy Policy

Protecting your privacy is important to us. We hope the following statement will help you understand how Software Quality Engineering, Inc. (“SQE”) collects, uses, and safeguards the personal information you provide to us on our web site.

Default Display

By default, TechWell displays basic user information including: Name, Location (state will be displayed regardless of security level), About Me, Status, My Contributions, Photo, and Friends.

The amount of visible information can be changed from the Edit Profile tab accessible from My Page.

Public Postings

The TechWell site (www.techwell.com and subordinate sites) (“Site”) makes its message boards and other posting content available to its members. Please remember that any information or material you disclose or submit to the Site becomes publicly accessible. Although you may include copyright and other protection statements with the material you submit, TechWell does not agree to protect the information you post. Postings represent an important resource for members of the TechWell community. You understand that your submissions will appear in searchable archives and may appear in other reference material for which there may or may not be a charge associated. Review the Terms of Use statement for complete information about submissions and posting to TechWell. If you do not agree with these terms, DO NOT SUBMIT OR POST to this site.

Cookie Disclosure

A cookie is a small string of text that a web site can send to your browser for temporary information storage or to your hard drive for storage until the cookie expires. Generally, cookies are used to distinguish a user’s browser and remember preferences and navigation set/used during a visit to a site (e.g., personalization, shopping carts, etc.).

Like many commercial web sites, TechWell uses “cookies” for a variety of tasks for every user. Specifically, TechWell uses temporary “session” cookies to assist in maintaining navigation states, to store aggregate information about how the site is used, and to present personalized information to enhance the experience of our users. Session cookies last until the user’s browser is closed. TechWell also offers members (users with a user name and password) the option to have a more persistent cookie saved on their computer. On TechWell, persistent cookies are encrypted, contain no personally identifiable information, and are used for the purpose of logging in a user automatically upon his or her return to the site from the computer where the cookie is written, and are only written with a user’s permission (requested when a user joins the site).

Third-party Links

TechWell contains links to other Internet sites. We encourage all of our partners, contributors, and third parties to implement policies and practices that respect the privacy of our users. However, TechWell is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of any linked web sites. Some of our advertisers use third-party companies to serve their advertisements on our sites and, in some cases, in our HTML-formatted newsletters. Often, these third-party advertising companies employ cookie and other technologies to measure advertisement effectiveness. We do not give any personally identifiable information to them as part of this practice.

We review our privacy practices from time to time, and ask that our visitors periodically review this page to ensure familiarity with the most current version of our privacy statement.

Customer Information

The TechWell privacy policy protects you from the misappropriation of the personal information you share with us. This policy has been formulated so you understand what we will, and will not, do with your personal information including name, address, and telephone number.

Anyone may browse the TechWell site anonymously. To contribute to TechWell (participate in the message board area, submit items on the site, comment on books, or post your software tools and services, you must join the site as a Free Member. We ask you to provide your name, email address, and, optionally, other information so that we can keep you informed about upcoming activities and new postings in your areas of interest. This information also helps us determine what content and products to offer you. This allows us to customize the advertising and content you see, which helps keep our service free or low cost to users, helps us provide you with better results, and gives us information on how to further enhance the editorial direction of the TechWell site.

Any personally identifiable information provided to us will not be shared with anyone without your permission. From time to time, we may survey you about your opinions, needs, and profile information (about you and/or your organization). We use this data to improve the site and tailor your experience on TechWell. But again, this information is not shared with sponsors or others without your permission. SQE occasionally shares aggregated information with third parties, but no personally identifiable information is shared in this manner.

Other than in the case of a change of control, SQE does not sell, trade, or rent any personal information that identifies particular individuals to any third parties without your permission. SQE does, however, use this information for its own marketing purposes, and to send you information you agreed to receive about topics and products from SQE and third-party vendors we think will be of interest to you.

Information and Transaction Security

TechWell has certain security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of information. Although no security measure is foolproof, we believe we’ve implemented a system that is safe to a reasonable certainty. Any potentially sensitive data, such as credit card information, is encrypted prior to transmission. Financial information that we collect is used to bill you for the products and services you order.

Email to a Friend

Unless otherwise indicated, the names and email addresses you provide on “email to a friend” forms will be used only to send the message and let the recipient know who the message is from.

Legal Agreement

This privacy policy forms a legal agreement between you and SQE. Your use of the site implies your agreement to the Terms of Use for this site.
