I Can See You Now: Google Glass Preview

Of course “Google Glass” immediately started trending on Twitter when Google launched the new Glass website. More details about what the wearable headset’s user interface can do were unveiled in dramatic fashion.

Do you want to see how Glass feels? Naturally, it's unsurprisingly simple. Check out the video below for the full effect.

You get the idea.
What will Glass do?

“Say “take a picture” to take a picture. Record what you see. Hands-free. Even share what you see. Live. Speak to send a message. Ask whatever’s on your mind. How long is the Brooklyn Bridge? Answer: 5,988’ (1,825 m) total length. Translate your voice.”

What color would you like your reality glasses to be? The choices apparently will be charcoal, tangerine, shale, cotton, and sky.

And for the early adopters, if you really really want Google Glass before it is released to the general public (and have $1,500, plus tax), you can apply to pre-order the Glass Explorer Edition by entering a contest of sorts. Using Google+ or Twitter, post what you would do if you had Glass, and use the hashtag: #ifihadglass. More information is available here, but the deadline for applications is February 27, 2013.

What has been the reaction so far?

Fast Company: “Developers, start your laptops. Google depicts how it'll feel using the augmented reality headset.”

Mashable: “Google’s most exciting, as-yet-unfinished experiment.”

TechCrunch: “Frankly, at this point, Google Glass isn’t ready for mass consumption. It will be released when it’s ready and until then, lowly consumers like most of us will have to sit on the sidelines and enjoy the future vicariously through YouTube demo videos.”

Someone remarked that, of course, Google Glass will really come in handy when they’re hot air ballooning, flying a plane, or riding a roller coaster. Like the old song, “Look straight ahead there's nothing but blue skies.” But others’ reactions were along the lines of “I can see all obstacles in my way.” After all, what if you drop them while fire juggling?

What do you think? Can you see yourself wearing Google Glass (and spending $1,000+)?
