Develop Apps for Samsung Galaxy S4 and Win Big
If you’re looking for a challenge this summer—as well as an opportunity to potentially earn some money—Samsung is once again hosting the company’s application development contest: Smart App Challenge 2013.
Developers are encouraged to build cool apps for Samsung’s Galaxy S4 series of devices, with up to $800,000 going to the top ten winning entries. First prize is $200,000 USD, with three second-place prizes of $100,000 each, and six third-place prizes of $50,000 each.
Apps should use the Samsung Chord Software Development Kit, which enables applications that let users share content and events in real-time between multiple devices without using the cloud or a server.
The contest is open from June 20, 2013, to August 31, 2013, and apps released on Samsung Apps after May 1, 2013 are also eligible. Judging will take place during November and December 2013, and entrants will be evaluated on uniqueness, design, commercial potential, and functionality. Winners are expected to be announced sometime during December 2013.
In addition to the financial rewards, winning entries will have an opportunity to be evaluated by Samsung Venture Investment, as well as receive help promoting the app, including a promotional video. Winners will be invited to Samsung Developer events such as Mobile World Congress 2014.
To spark some ideas, Samsung confirmed whispers of a compact version of its flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone, announcing the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini in advance of a Samsung media event scheduled for June 20, 2013, in London.
